Northern Lights marine genset service intervals

Northern Lights (M643, M773, M844, M99 series) is the workboat-tough option, heavier iron and longer intervals. Oil and oil filter: every 250 hours or annually, use CF-4 or CI-4 rated 15W40. Fuel filter (primary Racor plus onboard secondary): every 500 hours. Coolant: every 5 years or 5000 hours, Northern Lights specifies Fleetguard ES Compleat OAT. Impeller: every 1000 hours or 2 years, Northern Lights impellers are among the most robust in the industry but replace on schedule. Valve lash: every 1000 hours (intake 0.010 in, exhaust 0.014 in cold, wet). Zinc anodes: every 500 hours in salt water. Belt: 500 hours. First major inspection at 1000 hours. Key design difference from Onan/Kohler: Northern Lights uses a dry exhaust option on some models, inspect the exhaust elbow gasket annually because a failed dry exhaust gasket admits raw water into the cylinders on shutdown. Load management: same rule as other gensets, minimum 30 percent load for 30 minutes weekly. Marketed as "silent" but rubber isolators degrade over 5 years and vibration/noise climbs, inspect isolators at every major service.
